Soapbox Teaching

What is soapbox teaching you may ask? Well let me tell you, in the olden days, people would stand on wooden boxes and just preach out to the public in populated places. Now why is it the heading of my email? Because apparently I do it a lot in councils and meetings where I just go off about something. Now this being said, I got to speak in church! So it fits perfectly. A time for me to go off about something. Oh was I happy. And my topic to speak on was repentance, what an amazing topic. It went very well. Also our friend Saeid came to church, as also Ben Laing, who's a member we've been working with to return. So a very happy time at church.

This week had a few miracles in it. So in conclusion, I am happy. First miracle, one of our friends is getting baptized next week. This is very exciting. You see, we don't have a big teaching pool, but the friends we do have are absolutely amazing and I love them half to death. So the work is good. Next, we saw John Ford! John is someone I taught when I first got into the area who I absolutely loved. We had an amazing lesson with him and recommitted him to reading the Book of Mormon! Now the third Miracle, we found a household of uni students from China who are wanting to learn about God. They have amazing questions for us and we are super excited to start teaching them. Such a blessing!

Some other lessons we had this week was firstly Logan. Let me tell you, I absolutely love this guy. Now like I said before, he's very spiritual. But man is he the kindest, guy ever. And, he's searching for God. So hey, maybe we can help. Along with Logan, we had another lesson with Leanduh. She is still fantastic! She's in the middle of moving but I'm super keen for her. We also had a lesson with Saeid over the phone which was good. Then also during the week we had a lesson with our friend Dave. We're starting to teach more, it's just a gradual process.

On Saturday we went to Kersbrook again. We took a different way up this time and let me say, holy cow was the road narrow, had so many turns and just overall an adventure. Once we got there, we were able to see our friend David and chat with him, as well as Joan. While being in the town we were able to have a lesson with our new friend Justin. We went to his house, sat down with him for a while and talked about the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith. His problem is saying history and the Book of Mormon don't align. I think otherwise, so I expounded on my knowledge to him. He said he'll read the Book of Mormon and pray about it, so we're excited to hear his thoughts.

Some extra things this week, we had our last MLC with President and Sister Johansson. It was a great spirit filled meeting. They are such amazing mission leaders and will be missed greatly.

A spiritual thought for the week:
Mosiah 27: 24 "For, said he, I have repented of my sins, and have been redeemed of the Lord; behold I am born of the Spirit."
With my talk on repentance, it made me think of one of the greatest conversion stories in the Book of Mormon. The one I'm talking about of course, is Alma the Younger. Such a wicked man, becoming an amazing missionary and prophet. It really shows you can never be too far gone.

Well I hope you all have an amazing week. I'm grateful for each one of you. Thank you for all you do. Love you all!

Father's Day and Doughnuts

Week two done in Tea Tree Gully. It was a better week but still tested my patience. So we redrew the zone lines and teaching areas and while doing this, I dumbly gave up my favorite suburb in our area. It had two indigenous houses and just a lot of potential. But that's ok, we work with what we got. But before we get any further, Happy Father's Day! I know everyone says they have the best dad, but come on, have you met mine? I have the champ dad and there's no arguing with that. Love you dad, thanks for being the greatest father, coach, and hero I could've asked for.

First, we had a lesson with Leanduh. She's someone I taught before and was busy. But Tuesday we had an absolute amazing lesson with her. She's pretty lit. Also on Tuesday we had a lesson with Logan. He's a very... spiritual man. The lesson was good, he showed us his art and it was pretty cool.

Another lesson we had this week was with Saeid. It was over zoom call with President Johansson. It was a very good lesson and the spirit was very strong. Then he also came to church. So that was pretty cool.

We had some super cool experiences door knocking this week. One street we met this guy who said the day before he had a friend asked what happens after we die and he said he didn't know. Then he said it was a miracle that we showed up the next day telling him about it. He said it was a miracle and he was excited to learn more. Then we found this super nice couple, and gave them our number. They texted us asking if we'd stop by next time in the area for free oranges. So that was super kind of them.

Some random stuff, we had stake MCM which we haven't had in a while which was good. We also went to the farmers town in the hills which was okay. It was freezing and we didn't find anyone new.

A spiritual thought is Alma 29:9-10
9 I know that which the Lord hath commanded me, and I glory in it. I do not glory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy.
10 And behold, when I see many of my brethren truly penitent, and coming to the Lord their God, then is my soul filled with joy; then do I remember what the Lord has done for me, yea, even that he hath heard my prayer; yea, then do I remember his merciful arm which he extended towards me.

I know I suck at emailing back. But I promise next week, every person who emailed me the last month will get a return. I love you all and am grateful for you.

Peanut Butter Waffles

Well the week is over. Let me say, this was a very humbling week. My last area we were having 3-5 lessons a day and just had so much progression, to our new area having one lesson on Sunday for the whole week. Don't get me wrong, that one lesson was a huge blessing. It's just frustrating. This is my second time whitewashing this area and it just frustrating we have to restart again. But we have faith so let's see what happens.

The major excitement this week was we got to go to the hills. There's this small town I've always wanted to go since the first time I was in this area. We just couldn't because we didn't have a car. But now we have a car so we went to this small farmers town. Let me tell you, nicest people ever. We found three people and almost every single person talked to us. They were super nice. It was such a happy and blessful day.

The rest of the week we were just visiting past people, members, and door knocking. It was a slow week but we were able to still see miracles so that was good. Also during the week we went on exchanges with the Mawson Lake's Elders and Elder Soliai came to Modbury with me. It was a good exchange, he's a super fun and baller Elder.

A tender mercy was breakfast, I had peanut butter waffles. It was pretty amazing and made me happy.

A spiritual thought this week is Doctrine and Covenants 45:62 "For verily I say unto you, that great things await you;"

Love you all have a good week!

Sokol's Baptism and Transfers...

 Hi Everyone!

So this week was amazing. So much happened. Like holy crap I was all over the place. But that's what the mission is all about... Right? Oh well, let's just get into it. So I'm going to start backwards to forward, try to keep up.

Sunday: What an amazing day. A highlight of the day was Sokol got baptized. It all went very smooth. He was excited and told us nothing would stop him. We didn't drop him in the water which was my biggest fear. So all in all, it was an amazing experience. He was so excited. Nothing beats the joy of seeing someone get baptized.
Now a bonus, was the caravan park that evening. So for those who don't know there's a massive caravan park with cabins and stuff. We went and had the most amazing experience with a group of guys from Vanuatu. We had family home evening. They played the guitar and sang and dang they had amazing voices. The spirit was so strong and they were so excited about the Book of Mormon. They asked if we'd come every Sunday at 5:30. And a bonus we visited two others groups and had such an amazing lesson with our friend Jonathan. Sunday was absolutely amazing.

Okay now our friend Mel. She is so lit!!! She literally knows every little thing about the church. She said our visits is the highlight of her weeks. So #sheprettylit. Our other friends who are doing amazing is Rob, Chin and her kids, some less actives and heaps more. We've been super busy which is good. We went back to the Bills family and finished digging out their fence. Super tiring but man a good workout. Gotta get the gains. We saw Samuel Blackmore who is doing great. I love seeing the progress with him and can't wait for him to return to church.

I know I said I'd probably write this long, but honestly can't remember the week. I know a lot happened. But who knows what.

Okay now transfer call time. So they changed the zone leader area, I'll basically be going back to my last ward but it's bigger now. I have mixed feelings about it. It was an area loved, but man do I want to get out of this location. All my areas have been touching and I don't know why I've been kept around here for my whole mission. But just gotta trust the Lord and pray for the best.

A spiritual thought is 3 Nephi 22:10
"For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee."

Alright I love you, have a stellar week.

Helen's Baptism!!!

Ok for those who don't know, Helen is a lady I taught for almost 8 months in Morialta. But more about that later.

I've recently noticed my emails have gotten short. And that I have been lacking in the responding aspect. Today I'm making that all up. Oh that's right, this email will be a novel. So please, sit back, relax, and enjoy the story.

So Tuesday, we had a combined south Australia mission conference for President and Sister Johansson's last zone conference. It was so good! I got to catch up with a bunch of missionaries. I was so happy to be among friends. It's sad to see President and Sister Johansson leave, but hey, it's the mission for ya. Get close to someone then they dip. Oh whale 🐋. Then after we had a lesson with our new member Chris. And then a lesson with Rob Cadger. I absolutely love Rob. He is progressing so well it's unbelievable. After Rob we had dinner with the Blackmores which was amazing. Love their family. Then we had a lesson with our indigenous friend Simon. He is doing so well. He absolutely loves the Book of Mormon which is a great thing to hear as a missionary. So we're happy.

Wednesday was just full on busy like none other. We had district council in the morning which was amazing. Following that we had a lesson with Charlie which was amazing. Then we had a lesson with his neighbor Jodie who is actually doing pretty well. Following that we door knocked for 30 minutes. After door knocking we had a lesson with Chin and her family. The lesson was good, we talked a lot about missionary work and why we are here serving missions. The spirit was strong. After Chin we saw Sokol. He is doing so amazing. He's super excited for his baptism this next Sunday. Then, we had a lesson with our friend James at Ryan and Karen's. That lesson went... well. It's so hard to teach at their house because they like to talk, but hey, we work with what we got. Then to close the night we started our exchange, I went to Tea Tree Gully with Elder Ginn.

Exchange time. Tea Tree Gully is still lit. We biked instead up bussed. It was pretty lit. Dang am I out of shape. But that's why we do it. We visited a bunch of members, door knocked and it was lit. Pretty good exchange. Friday was then pretty great. We had a bunch of lessons that went very well. So yeah it was good.

Saturday we had a lesson with the Bongco family. They really got into it and were super involved which was awesome. After that we had a lesson with Mel. We had one scheduled Wednesday but she said to come Saturday so we didn't know how interested she really was. But turns out she was super excited. We talked to her for about an hour and it went so good. After that we had two great lessons with inactive members. One is planning on coming to church this week. So that's pretty cool.

Now the time we've all been waiting for, Helen's baptism! Ok so my last day in Morialta, Helen asked if I'd come back for her baptism. When I showed up she was so excited. She tried to hug me but I said nope and stuck out my hand for a handshake. It was so good to talk to talk to the members. We were there literally an hour and half talking. I got to talk to some the priest I taught mission prep to. It was such a great experience. I miss that ward so much. After that we went to this caravan park which was beast. We had a lesson with this dude name Jonathan. Pretty lit dude.

So yes, that's my week. It was amazing. I am very happy.

A spiritual thought comes from an Elder Bednar's devotional. If all you have is a testimony, you run the risk of falling away from the church. It won't be enough. You must truly be converted to the Savior. That will keep you on the right path.

Love you all! Have a stellar week. Talk to you when I do.

Some Stuff Idk

 G'day my amigos,

What a week it's been. Miracles, stacked on miracles, stacked on learning opportunities. Shall we break it down? Oh we shall.

First miracle, Tuesday. Why you may ask? Because we had a green day! For those who don't know what that is, it's when every single lesson, contact, phone call and everything planned happens. Sadly we don't get them a lot, but we had one on Tuesday! We had a lesson with an inactive member who wants to come back to church. We also had a lesson with our new member Chris Hendry. He's doing... ok. Prayers would definitely help. After that we had a lesson with my guy Rob. It was stellar. He's doing amazing. Then we door knocked and met this awesome lady named Mel. We'll see if anything comes from that. Then we had a great lesson with our friend Cosmos and then with Sokol. Sokol is doing amazing! We had his baptismal interview and that went fantastic. Now we just wait for the day and he'll get baptized. After Sokol we saw our friend Simon our indigenous friend and it actually went very good. It was a very blessful day.

Then Wednesday was also insane. We had four straight lessons with President Hollow. The first was with Bee. It was a very spiritual lesson. She believes in Jesus but has never belonged to a specific church. After that we had a lesson with our friend Chin. She is doing good. Just her uncle doesn't want her coming to our church. But we got his number so we'll see what we can do. After Chin we saw Sokol which I talked about earlier. Then to close the night we saw Ryan and Karen. There umm also doing ok.

Other lessons have been with the Andersons, a bunch of members, and door knocking. Overall it was a good week. We had exchanges and I was with Elder Oliphant. It wad a good exchange.

A spiritual thought, to quote Sister Johannson, "Just Jesus".
Love you all have a great week!

Happy Mothers Day Pt. 2

Happy Mother's Day!

This is a much deserved holiday, especially for my mom. She is the greatest ever. She's always been there for me and supported me. My mom is one of my heroes and best friends. Love you mom!

This week was pretty good. Probably the biggest miracle was Sokol was put on date! It took three tries. The first, he almost dropped us, the second, he said he wanted to read the whole Book of Mormon, but this time, he said he was ready. Shows you just have to trust in the Lord's timing and miracles will come.

Then Wednesday we had in person MLC. The meeting was great as always but the best part was being able to go to the Temple with the MLC and President and Sister Johansson. It's been a long time since I've been able to go and it was such a great blessing and joy to be able to go. Then after we all went to this super fire burger place. Definitely a time to remember.

The rest of the week was pretty good as well. We had another good lesson with our friend Chin and her family. Hopefully they'll be able to come to church this next week. We also had a couple of lessons with our friend Rob. He's doing great. This next week, we're going to try to have a little BBQ with him. Then we also had a lesson with our other friend Rob. He's ok... We'll see what route we end up taking with him. Then our indigenous friends Khandy and Simon are so fun to teach. They're very humble and love us coming over. They also have two of the cutest Pit bulls.

Our members are doing so great. We now have like eighty more than before. So on Sunday it was a challenge trying to get to know everyone. But baby steps, we'll get there. Some highlight member visits was the Howells, who are an older couple who are my very favorite. Then of course Charlie who's been helping us teach his neighbor Jodie. We've been doing Book of Mormon reads with him and are now working with him on coming to church. Then we just saw some less active members and our new members. Pretty good visits for the week.

A spiritual thought this week comes from the talk, The Cloven Tongues of Fire. The quote is, "Too many of us are like those whom the Lord said “[came] with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, … [and] at the time of their conversion, were baptized with fire and with the Holy Ghost, and they knew it not." What a gift the comforter is, and so overlooked it can be. We literally have a member of the Godhead promised to us to be our constant companion to be with us as long as we live worthy. This isn't just to help us when we read the scriptures or pray, it gives us help and guidance for all aspects of our life. School, work, families, literally all things. That is such a gift and needs to be utilized more often.

As always, I love you all! Thank you for everything and all you do. Let me know if there's anything I can do for y'all. Have a good Mothers Day. Talk to you next week.
